Outstanding Achievement: Marine Biology Graduate Receives Prestigious University Award

The School of Marine Sciences congratulates Tovah Nehrer, graduate of our MSc program in Marine Biology, on receiving the University of Haifa's Dean of Graduate Studies Award for Outstanding Thesis for the 2024–2025 academic year. Her research, titled "A Conserved Signaling Pathway, a Different Outcome: The Role of the ERK Signaling Pathway in Sea Urchin Skeletal Elongation," was supervised by Prof. Smadar Ben-Tabou de-Leon.

Charney School signed a first-of-its-kind MOU with Emirati and German academic institutes to protect oceans

The University of Haifa is partnering with the United Arab Emirates University and the Germany-based GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel to investigate climate change and pollution in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea and the Arabian Gulf.

The Dusty and Ettie Miller Fellowship was recently awarded to Dr. Tal Luzzatto-Knaan

The Fellowship was recently awarded in a festive ceremony, for her cutting-edge research in metabolomics. Luzzatto-Knaan's Lab explores the communication "chemistry" in algae and bacterial interactions, as well as the functional role of these molecules.

Three current Charney School members and one alum became new fellows of The Kavli Frontiers of Science Israel-USA

The Kavli Frontiers of Science Israel-USA, held in partnership with the Israel Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences brings together accomplished early career scientists for a three day opportunity to exchange ideas, network, and cross pollinate. This year, three current Charney School members (Dr. Tal Luzzatto Knaan, Prof. Tali Mass, Dr. Aviad Scheinin) and one alum (Dr. Maxim Rubin-Blum) became new fellows, and one Charney School member participated for the fourth time (Dr. Beverly Goodman-Tchernov).
