Our researchers have found that, rather than drifting aimlessly, jellyfish in the Mediterranean are actually trying to move in a specific direction, often away from beaches — they’re just not very good at it. “Until now, it was widely assumed that jellyfish aggregations swam randomly, with their direction determined solely by water currents. However, thanks to innovative research methods, we discovered that along the coast of Israel, jellyfish swim westward, against the direction of the waves,” said Dr. Yoav Lehahn, from our Marine Geosciences Department. These changes help improve readability and provide a slightly more polished tone for the article.
