During a deep-sea survey conducted by the Morris Kahn Marine Research Station of the Charney School of Marine Sciences, researchers were greeted by a large pod of dolphins – mothers and calves – performing acrobatic leaps for over an hour. The survey, led by Dr. Aviad Scheinin and PhD candidate Yali Mebarak, is part of an ongoing study of marine mammals in Israel’s deep waters.
This rare sighting, at depths of around 1,000 meters and far from fishing vessels, highlights the unique ecological features of the northern Israeli coastline.
