Rebeca Chinicz

M.Sc., Marine Technologies Department
Software engineer

“I always knew I wanted to study computing, mathematics, and technology. I moved to Israel from Brazil after high school and completed a bachelor’s degree in computer science, but I still wanted to learn more. I came across the master’s program in marine technologies online by chance. I visited the lab, and I knew for certain that this was what I wanted to study.

Currently, I work as a software developer, a role that heavily depends on how willing you are to handle changes at a very high frequency. My degree provided me with strong skills in understanding complex topics and analyzing data optimally, even if things aren’t clear from the start.

To students considering an advanced degree in marine sciences, I’d say it’s an investment in the future – they should know that they’ll receive an education in one of the most interesting and innovative fields, though it’s also a field that isn’t fully established or widely known yet.

My research for the degree on the statistical connection between vision and underwater acoustics not only led to the publication of my first scientific paper but also taught me a lot about conducting structured research, time management, and many other skills that support my current professional life.”
