Department Head:
A Journey into the Depths of the Sea: Innovation and Science in the Department of Blue biotechnologies and Sustainable mariculture
Welcome to our innovative Master’s degree program, established in response to the global challenges of the 21st century, with the aim of training the next generation of scientists and experts in the “Blue Revolution”.
Background
The ocean is key to our planet’s future. Oceans, covering about 70% of the Earth’s surface, are an immense source of life and resources. However, only a small part of this potential is currently utilized. In an era of climate change, global population growth, and depletion of terrestrial resources, the sea offers innovative and sustainable solutions to a variety of global challenges. Marine biotechnology and sustainable aquaculture are rapidly developing fields, combining advanced knowledge in life sciences, engineering, and technology for responsible exploitation of marine resources. These fields offer fascinating opportunities for developing new food sources, revolutionary drugs, advanced materials, and solutions to environmental problems.
About the Department
Here you’ll find where innovation meets sustainability in the vast and dynamic space of marine sciences. The department offers an innovative and multidisciplinary curriculum, combining advanced research with practical applications, aiming to train leading scientists and engineers and promote groundbreaking research. Special emphasis is given to developing solutions for global challenges such as food security, health, and climate change, in close collaboration with industry.
