The Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences at the University of Haifa commemorates the life and legacy of Morris Kahn, whose foresight and commitment to science were instrumental in shaping the School’s research landscape. A long-standing supporter of the University, he dreamed alongside the founders, Prof. Dan Tchernov and Dr Shai Einbinder, of establishing the Morris Kahn Marine Research Station (MKMRS), an integral unit of LHC dedicated to long-term, ecosystem-wide research in the eastern Mediterranean. Morris Kahn’s involvement extended beyond financial support; he followed the work with genuine curiosity, valued precision and process, and remained closely engaged with the station and the school as its scientific mission evolved.

His belief in scientific excellence, transparency, and responsible stewardship of the marine environment aligned deeply with the values of the Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences and strengthened the University of Haifa’s role as a leader in marine research. His legacy continues through the school, MKMRS, and the enduring scientific contributions that inform research, policy, and conservation efforts.
