Dr. Igal Berenshtein Awarded Prestigious Grant for Marine Protected Areas Research
We are proud to congratulate Dr. Igal Berenshtein from the Department of Marine Biology, on receiving a prestigious research grant from Yad Hanadiv and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority.
Dr. Berenshtein leads the project in collaboration with fellow researchers from the Charney School, the Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research Institute (IOLR), and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The research focuses on understanding how larval fish and other marine organisms settle and establish populations within Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) along Israel’s Mediterranean coast. Using submerged moorings, larval dispersal modeling, and advanced environmental monitoring tools, the project aims to generate new insights into the ecological functioning of MPAs and their role in restoring marine ecosystems.
This work represents a significant step forward in marine conservation science and contributes to the sustainable management of Israel’s coastal biodiversity.
