Annual Symposium In memory of Dr.Hillel Wust-Bloch 2026

Seismology and Earthquake Science:
Links to marine geophysical investigations and fluid-induced seismicity

09.09.2026 I Safdie Auditorium, University of Haifa

This annual symposium in memory of Dr. Hillel Wust-Bloch traditionally broadly focused on Seismology and Earthquake Science, is designed to bridge the gap between academic geophysical research advancements and their practical applications, ensuring that the latest scientific discoveries translate into improvements in earthquake forecasting, preparedness and community safety.
By expanding this year (2026) symposium to areas of Marine Geophysics and Fluid-induced seismicity, complex challenges in assessments of natural marine-sourced disasters, in responsible energy developments, and in other human-related activities, will be discussed.

Conference topics include but not limited to:

  • Geological fault zone properties and source parameters
  • Fault mechanics and rupture dynamics
  • Stress accumulation and release in the crust
  • Fluid Pressure and Fault Failure
  • Microseismicity
  • Marine geophysical techniques and Deep-Sea Observation: Ocean-bottom seismology challenges and breakthroughs
  • Induced anthropogenic seismicity, and associated hazard assessments
  • Regional Case Studies: Seismic hazard in the Eastern Mediterranean, Dead Sea Transform and Sea of Galilee
  • Tsunami Hazards and their connections to earthquakes
  • Landslides and soil liquefaction
  • Interdisciplinary links with Geodynamics
  • Seismic and electromagnetic methods: Refraction, reflection, and surface-wave analysis
  • Real-time seismic monitoring networks and data integration
  • Past seismicity for predicting the future earthquakes
  • Advanced early warning systems
  • Physics-based earthquake simulations
  • Numerical modelling of fault systems
  • Data Integration & Inversion Techniques
  • Machine learning applications in seismic data interpretation
  • Hazard modelling and probabilistic seismic risk assessment
  • Fiber-optic Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS)
