פרופ' יואב להן הוא חבר סגל בבית הספר לימודי ים ע"ש צ'רני מאז 2007. בעבודתו המדעית יואב משלב מדידות שדה (in-situ) עם נתוני חישה מרחוק מלוויינים, מטוסים ורחפנים על מנת לחקור מערכות ימיות בממשק בין דיסציפלינות מדעיות. גישה זו משמשת לאיסוף תובנות תצפיתיות על היבטים שונים של מחקר ימי, כולל דפוסים וביוגאוגרפיה של פלנקטון , תפקיד שכבת המיקרו על פני הים (sea surface microlayer) במערכת אוויר-ים, דינמיקה של נחילי מדוזות, והשפעת שינויים סביבתיים על המערכת האקולוגית במזרח הים התיכון.
