ד״ר שני לוי עומדת בראש המעבדה לסימביוזה ואימונולוגיה של אלמוגים. היא השלימה דוקטורט באוניברסיטת חיפה בביולוגיה ימית, בחקר מנגנונים מולקולריים והתפתחותיים בצורבים. לאחר מכן המשיכה כפוסט דוקטורנטית באוניברסיטת חיפה וכעמיתת מרי קירי במכון לרגולציה גנומית בברצלונה CRG. בעבודותיה הובילה מחקרים פורצי דרך בביולוגיה של אלמוגים, לרבות זיהוי תאים חיסוניים ובניית אטלסים תאיים של מיני אלמוגים שונים, שאיפשרו אפיון כולל של סוגי התאים והביטוי הגנטי המייחד כל תא.
המחקר במעבדה מתמקד בסימביוזה בין אלמוגים לאצות חד תאיות, בתגובות שני השותפים לעקות סביבתיות יחד ולחוד, ובמערכת החיסון המולדת של האלמוגים ותפקידה בשימור הסימביוזה ובהלבנה.
