This effort marks a key step in advancing Israel\u2019s commitment to the <em data-start=\"906\" data-end=\"913\">30&#215;30<\/em> global target (protecting 30% of marine areas by 2030) and to <em data-start=\"976\" data-end=\"1012\">UN Sustainable Development Goal 14<\/em> focused on marine conservation.<\/p><p data-start=\"1046\" data-end=\"1243\">The next phase of the project is already underway. With support from the international organization OCEANS, implementation has begun through advanced deep-sea surveys using cutting-edge technology:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1244\" data-end=\"1424\"><li data-start=\"1244\" data-end=\"1348\"><p data-start=\"1246\" data-end=\"1348\"><strong data-start=\"1246\" data-end=\"1253\">ROV<\/strong> \u2013 a remotely operated vehicle for imaging and data collection at depths of up to 1,000 meters.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1349\" data-end=\"1424\"><p data-start=\"1351\" data-end=\"1424\"><strong data-start=\"1351\" data-end=\"1358\">AUV<\/strong> \u2013 an autonomous underwater vehicle for detailed seafloor mapping.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1426\" data-end=\"1652\">In January 2025, we completed a survey in the proposed MPA \u201cCentral Slope,\u201d revealing a rich and fragile underwater world. The findings highlight the urgent need to protect Israel\u2019s deep-sea environment \u2014 before it\u2019s too late.<\/p><p data-start=\"1654\" data-end=\"1820\">We will continue working to promote the official declaration of these protected areas as part of a global effort to preserve marine ecosystems for future generations.<\/p><p data-start=\"1822\" data-end=\"2066\"><strong data-start=\"1822\" data-end=\"1914\">We are proud of the School of Marine Sciences researchers who contributed to this study:<\/strong><br data-start=\"1914\" data-end=\"1917\" \/>Prof. Yizhaq
