To continue to lead in marine science research and enable our students to make significant achievements and groundbreaking discoveries, we are committed to providing them with the most advanced and innovative research infrastructures available.
The Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences invests a huge amount of resources in cutting-edge technological facilities and instruments that enable in-depth, longitudinal research; the collection and monitoring of data from the marine environment; and the confirmation of complex marine models.
We also make our advanced research services and technological scientific equipment available to external organizations and institutes. Diving center<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The diving center of the School of Marine Sciences, located in Kibbutz Sdot Yam, is an essential part of the Morris Kahn Marine Research Station.
The center is recognized by the Israeli Diving Federation and operates under the auspices of the Israeli Sports Diving Act and the American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS).\u00a0
The center provides training and certification for researchers and student divers at all levels of scuba diving, up to the level of trimix divers and instructors, closed-circuit diving, and AAUS-sponsored scientific diver training.\u00a0
The center uses the highest quality diving equipment available. It has a compression system designed to compress all the gases and gas mixtures needed for diving up to a depth of 100 meters.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Eastern Mediterranean Observatory<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

THEMO (Texas A&M – University of Haifa Eastern Mediterranean Observatory)\u201d is an observatory comprised of two sensor arrays attached to 2.25m diameter surface buoys. THEMO includes a shallow mooring (125 m) in the coastal zone of the Levant Basin of the Mediterranean Sea, and a deep mooring (1500 m) located 50 km from the northern shores of Haifa after the continental shelf. The two moorings have real time RF communication capabilities, and the data is received at a shore station. and is displayed at the University of Haifa on 8 large tiled screens.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Morris Kahn Marine Research Station<\/a> is a long-term ecological research station\u00a0focusing on the eastern Mediterranean basin\u00a0located in Kibbutz Sdot Yam.<\/a>\u00a0 The station was established in order to provide baseline data and understanding of the marine ecological system in the Mediterranean Sea of Israeli coastal waters.
The station focuses on six main research topics:<\/p>
