About
Dr. Maxim Rubin-Blum is a marine biologist who studies the molecular ecology of the deep sea. He is a Senior Lecturer at the Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences at the University of Haifa and a Senior Researcher at the Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research (IOLR) institute. His work focuses on the microbiology and biogeochemistry of chemosynthesis-based deep-sea ecosystems, including gas seeps, brine pools, and anoxic basins in the Southeastern Mediterranean. His research integrates genomic, ecological, and oceanographic approaches to uncover how deep-sea organisms drive carbon cycling and shape key geochemical processes in extreme marine environments.
