Our Researchers Uncover Clues to Invasive Seaweed Threat in Galapagos

Dr. Tal Luzzatto Knaan , from the Marine Biology Department has returned from an eight-day expedition to the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador. The trip was dedicated to collecting crucial data on invasive seaweed species as part of a collaborative effort with the Charles Darwin Foundation for the Galapagos Islands and the Galápagos National Park.

Real-world Experience for Our Marine Tech Students!

On July 31, at 04:00, thirteen brave students from our Hatter Department of Marine Technologies embarked on an exciting 18-hour adventure aboard the research vessel Bat Galim. Led by Dr. Derya Akkaynak, this cruise was a true hands-on learning experience!

PhD Student Prashant Tewari Wins Second Place in 3-Minute Thesis Competition

Congrats to Prashant Tewari, our talented PhD student in the Regulation and Evolution of Development (RED) lab, under the supervision of Prof. @Smadar Ben-tabou De-leon, for winning second place in the University of Haifa's 3-Minute Thesis Competition! Prashant's presentation focused on p21-activated kinase in sea urchin development and biomineralization. Great presentation and well deserved award!

It was truly inspiring to witness their passion and dedication! We then savored a delicious meal prepared by our own hands. It turns out our talents extend far beyond the laboratory! Our Marie biology researchers Win Prestigious Award for Seafood Safety Study

Charney School researchers are making waves! We are thrilled to announce that our marine biology researchers and students have won the Journal of Food Science's prestigious Tanner Prize for the most cited articles of 2021. Their important research was published in Toxicology and Chemical Food Safety and focuses on assessing heavy metals in the local Israeli seafood, and the exposure to humans through seafood consumption. The research was conducted by Debi Ramon, Danny Morick, Peter Croot, Ran Berzak, Aviad Scheinin, Dan Tchernov, Nadav Davidovich, & Malka Britzi. Read the award-winning article here. Dr. Oren Gal Represents Marine Technologies Department at MIT in Groundbreaking AI Collaboration

We are proud to share that Dr. Oren Gal of our of Marine Technologies Department represented us with distinction at MIT Professional Education last week! Dr. Gal gave a captivating seminar talk at the prestigious CSAIL - MIT lab, a leader in AI research at MIT. In addition, Dr. Gal was invited to visit the MIT Ocean Robotics Lab. We are excited to announce that future collaboration between our school and MIT in this important area is planned. We are proud of Dr. Gal's accomplishments and look forward to continued exciting international collaborations!
