The Limnology and Limnogeology field trip to the Dead Sea
2-3 OF MAY, 2012
On early May, 2012, a two-day field-trip to the Dead Sea took place as part of the Limnology and Limnogeology course, as part of the academic studies at the Department of Marine Geosciences. The course was led by Dr. Nicolas Waldmann and was attended by MSc and PhD students from both the Dept of Marine Geosciences and Dept of Marine Biology. During the course, the students visited sites along the shores of the Dead Sea in order to understand the geological evolution of the basin and to learn about the history of marine and lacustrine water bodies that developed within this structural basin. Following camping in the field, the second day of the field-trip was characterized by actual field-work, which included measuring columnar sections, taking sediment samples for further laboratory analysis and mapping.
